About the ITU Green Standards Week

ITU and the Ministry of Economic Development of Italy organized the first Green Standards Week from 5 to 9 September 2011 in Rome, Italy, hosted by Telecom Italia.

The Green Standards Week brought together leading specialists in the field, from top policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts and others.

The main purpose was to raise awareness of the importance and opportunities of using ICT standards to build a green economy.

Green ICT Applications Challenge Award Ceremony

ITU would like to congratulate Lis Lugo Colls from Spain, winner of the Green ICT Application Challenge. This innovative application will help mobile users to locate recycling and garbage bins, aiming to reduce the issue of pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by waste.

Lis was invited to present ‘Smart Recycling’ at the ITU Green Standards Week in Rome, Italy on 6 September 2011, and was awarded with the cash prize of USD 10,000. Congratulations Lis Lugo Colls!

World Café @ ITU Green Standards Week

The world café is an effective way to host vibrant collaborative conversations. It was held as the last session of the workshop on Submarine Cables for Ocean/ Climate Monitoring and Disaster Warning: Science, Engineering, Business and Law to ensure the active involvement of each and every participant in a generative discussion around the key questions and issues emerging from the event.
