Description |
The broadcasting industry is undergoing major transformation in the converged environment. The technologies driving the transmission, production and archiving are in the process of transitioning from analogue to digital, creating new opportunities while posing new challenges. Analogue TV is on the verge of obsolescence in most developped countries. Most developing and least developed countries, however, are in early stages of making the significant technology transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting. Many of these countries require technical support to develop their plans for such transition. The introduction of the digital broadcasting was endorsed by the region as one of the Regional Initiatives for Asia-Pacific by the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-10, Hyderabad, India, 24 May-4 June 2010). The objective of this project is to assist selected beneficiary countries located mainly in Asia and the Pacific region in the smooth transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting through the following:

Achievements |
5 countries in Asia Pacific and the Americas (Vietnam, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Afghanistan, and Guyana) have received ITU assistance in developing the roadmap report on digital broadcasting transition.Organized ITU Asia-Pacific Centre of Excellence Training on Digital Broadcasting Technologies and Implementation”, 5 -7 Feb 2014, New Delhi, India.
