Accelerating Africa’s Digital Transformation Through Connectivity

Project No 9RAF21101
Title Accelerating Africa’s Digital Transformation Through Connectivity
Description

The project 9RAF21101 “Accelerating Africa’s Digital Transformation Through Connectivity” will facilitate the creation of a multi-stakeholder platform to provide the opportunity for other private sector, civil society, and academic organizations to engage.

Ethiopia is at a critical juncture, undergoing political, economic and demographic transitions that are structural in nature. These transitions pose challenges but also permit a leap forward in inclusion, shared prosperity, sustainability, as well as on peace and security. As such, Ethiopia is transforming to meet its changing development aspirations and the demands of the future. The country’s first digital transformation strategy, Digital Ethiopia 2025, sets to transform the country's national economy through four major pathway sectors.

To further ensure synergies and coordination, project 9RAF21101 will draw on, leverage, and support where needed existing related ITU projects. The main objective of this Project is to foster meaningful digital connectivity and access with a focus on youth and women in the African region, in particular in Ethiopia.

The contribution from Microsoft is complemented with additional funded of 100,000 USD from the ICTDF. This contribution will allow the strengthening of all project activities, as well as the hiring of additional project resources to support the development/implementation of youth related elements of the project, which has been identified by both Ethiopia, Microsoft, and ITU as a key priority.
