Capacity development to accelerate school connectivity in collaboration with the Giga Initiative

Project No 9GLO24140
Title Capacity development to accelerate school connectivity in collaboration with the Giga Initiative
Description

This project brings the ITU General Secretariat (GS) and ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) together through the Giga initiative to collaborate on Capacity Development to accelerate school connectivity under the umbrella of the ITU Academy and through the Giga Learning Hub. It aims to strengthen the capacity of ITU Member States and relevant stakeholders to enhance their telecommunication/ICT policy, legal and regulatory knowledge and frameworks to accelerate school connectivity and to connect young people to digital technologies and services in line with Giga’s overall strategy and objectives.

This project will leverage the ITU Academy learning platform as the primary ITU channel for training delivery, enhancing the existing learning content associated with school connectivity and access to ICT services for youth. The main output will be the development of a comprehensive Giga training and learning strategy meant to strengthen the impact of the initiative through capacity development. It also includes the implementation of two workshops that will focus on two different groups of stakeholders (ITU members states and private sector partners).

This project specifically focuses on the capacity development and training components related to the Giga Learning Hub, which is one of the four pillars of the Geneva Connectivity Center for year one. Additional activities, particularly those focused on the delivery of capacity development and training, are expected Years 2 and 3, contingent upon funding availability and the successful implementation of this project.

Achievements
The project aims to significantly enhance the capacity of ITU Member States and stakeholders by improving telecommunication and ICT policy frameworks, thereby accelerating school connectivity. A comprehensive Giga training and learning strategy will be developed, leveraging the ITU Academy learning platform to create new training materials and courses. This initiative will also implement a series of workshops throughout the project, focusing on improving the skills of member states and other stakeholders in school connectivity.

Additionally, the project will establish a digital repository for learning materials, case studies, and best practices, ensuring continuous access for trainees. A feedback mechanism will be put in place to regularly update content based on global trends and participant feedback. By fostering collaboration and leadership among Giga stakeholders, the project aims to connect every school to the Internet, providing young people with access to essential digital technologies and services.
