Title CoE Network for Africa
Description Under the aegis of the Regional Initiatives for Africa, this Project aims to establish a sustainable network of selected training and educational institutions (hereafter "nodes") that provide training opportunities in topics related to telecomunications/information and communication technologies (ICTs). The overall objective is to promote human capacity building of governmental authorities, regulators, and senior managers of operators and service providers.

Achievements

In 2009, the network of centres of excellence was created with 6 institutions which started implementation of training activities in the framework of the main themes defined in the project document, namely Policy and Regulation, Business and Management, New Technologies and Services, Universal Access and Rural ICT Development. The results of the project included the following:
   - 1947 professionals benefited from face-to-face training events (through 75 workshops)
   - 166 participants benefited from distance-learning courses ( through 7 online trainings)
   - With an average participation of 25 participants, workshops have reached more than the target of 15 participants/workshop.

ITU Academy platform was available to all training programs and events organized by centers and ITU also provided a platform for benchmarking and the sharing best practices. Overall the project achieved its objective to build human capacity in Africa Region.
