Title | Boosting decent jobs and enhancing skills for youth in Africa’s digital economy |
Description |
Africa’s growing youth population and the continent’s transition to the digital economy represent a huge opportunity to bolster African economies while addressing the important levels of unemployment and working poverty among young people. Project 2RAF20091 proposes to leverage growing digital markets in six African countries for decent jobs for youth. ITU, together with ILO, aims at enabling young Africans to access decent work in the digital economy through a holistic system-level approach that boosts job creation and entrepreneurship opportunities in the digital economy while promoting the respect for youth labour rights, invests in digital capacities and skills for youth, and improves the labour market intermediation mechanism of employment services. Across all levels, the programme will gather novel data and research in order to contribute rigorous evidence to boost youth employment in Africa's digital economy. |

The programme will develop, implement and share knowledge on holistic, system level approaches that combine boosting job creation in the digital economy; investing in digital skill development for youth; and improving labour market intermediation to achieve the objective in each country. Participating countries will develop and implement nationally appropriate approaches developed with full involvement and participation of all stakeholders; informed by and in turn informing the pan-African knowledge base. Outcomes of the programme at the national level are: - National policies and regulations, this includes pro-youth employment strategies for the digital economy; - New and improved services and programmes to build labour demand in the digital economy, improved skills development and streamline intermediation. At the pan-African level, including in each participating country, the programme’s outcome is the creation of sustainable collaboration and partnerships among key stakeholders to promote digital skills and decent jobs for youth in the digital economy.
