BACKGROUND

The progression to the information era and the convergence of information and communications technologies mean that the Internet will continue to play an important role in communications, the transfer of information and knowledge and electronic commerce in the future. As we move into the next millennium, the Internet will play an increasingly important role in facilitating Tanzania's transition to an information-age society.

Recognising this trend, the Tanzania Communications Commission (TCC) as provided for in the Communications Act No.18 of 1993 and the National Telecommunications Policy of 1997, has further liberalised the provision of public Internet access services in Tanzania.
