Internet was introduced in Seychelles in September 1996 and to date there are approximately 2000 Internet subscribers of which:
· 60% Private/Home Users
· 40% Business of which 30% is Government and 70% other businesses.

Where Internet users are concerned, we currently don't have any statistic, however there are an increasing number of users among the younger generation especially with the recent introduction of Internet in all secondary school on Mahe and Praslin.

ISP

There is currently only one ISP in Seychelles, which is called ATLAS.

ATLAS is formed by a consortium of three main computer companies in Seychelles: Space 95, VCS and MBM.

The Government recently announced that the two telecommunication company in Seychelles, CWS & TSL, cannot be an ISP, however we currently don't know whether this is a policy or not and whether it is indefinite.

A new set of policy is being written for Information Technology in Seychelles which will come out later in the year.

Amount of International Bandwidth available for Internet

Currently there is 512 kilobytes available, however this is being upgraded to
2 Megabytes.

Bureau Services

There is currently 2 Internet Bureau in Seychelles - one on the main island Mahe and one on the second largest Island Praslin.

Users are charged a minimum charge of SR10.00 for 15 minutes.
