PP-02 Decisions on review of the International Telecommunication Regulations
and subsequent actions
The ITU Marrakesh Plenipotentiary Conference, after considering a number of
input documents from Member States,
adopted Resolution 121 [E|F|S], which resolved
that the Union should continue a process of reviewing the International
Telecommunication Regulations [E|F|S]. To this end, a
Working Group of Council, open to all Member States, whose delegations may
include appropriate legal, regulatory and technical experts has been established.
The Resolution also invites contributions from Member States, Sector Members,
the advisory groups, regional preparatory meetings, regional organizations
(in line with Resolution 58, Kyoto, 1994) and other organizations. If you
wish to make a contribution (input document), for posting on the website and discussion by
the Working Group, please submit it in electronic format to the ITR
secretariat.
In May 2003, Council nominated Mr. Alaa Fahmy, Executive President of
Telecom Regulatory Authority of Egypt as Chairman of Council Working Group on
ITRs.
In order to advance quickly the work, the Chairman proposed to have three
sub-Groups [DM1079] and asked for volunteers to
coordinate the work of Sub- Groups.
As the work will mostly take place electronically, Member States are
invited to nominate experts to participate in the electronic discussions.
In addition, please
also see Mr. Fahmy's next letter [DM1107]
further encouraging member states to participate in the work of this Working Group and its Sub-Groups.
Send your comments, input documents and nomination of experts to the
ITR
secretariat.
