Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean

Session 373

16:00–17:00 (UTC+02:00), Monday, 19 April 2021 Regional Workshop

Latin America and the Caribbean have been one of the hardest-hit regions by the COVID-19 pandemic. Restrictions and other interventions to reduce movement and preserve public health have impacted the economy heavily. As a means to circumvent social distancing measures, continue business operations, secure sources of income, and remain solvent during the crisis, a massive shift of businesses and consumers to digital and online channels followed. E-commerce penetration in the region jumped years forward in a few months, accelerating a digital transformation process. This workshop will analyze the challenges to promote electronic commerce in the LAC region and the challenges in policy and regulation.
