Protecting the Consumer + Employee Data
In the age of big data, the digital economy and the digital world, one of the most critical components of online business is creating a trusted environment where potential customers can feel confident making their purchases online. Millions of people’s data, especially during online transactions on the internet, is shared by us all every day. This includes sensitive information like credit card numbers, personal identification numbers and login credentials which should be, but are not always, secure. Data security and privacy protection are essential for cybersecurity.
Event objectives: This workshop will provide participants with the knowledge and understanding of the most recent, critical cybersecurity challenges and difficulties in the e-commerce sector. This workshop aims to raise cyberspace security awareness and best practices worldwide to empower citizens with the knowledge of how to stay safe online and ensure more safe and secure internet spaces for all. By leveraging global expertise from different stakeholders in academic, private sectors and non-profit organisations, this panel will bring together a diverse set of experts to help you navigate yourself in cyberspace.
Professor Chris Mitchell has been a Professor of Computer Science at Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL) since 1990; he previously worked for Hewlett-Packard Labs, Bristol as a project manager. He has worked in information security and cryptography for over 40 years, and he has published well over 250 refereed articles in journals and conferences. At RHUL he co-founded the world famous Information Security Group in 1990 and also played a major role in developing the ground-breaking MSc in Information Security in 1992, which now has several thousand alumni worldwide. He has been involved in international security standardisation for over 30 years.
Lennig Pedron has expertise in cybersecurity applied to the digital trust economy. She is the director of the Swiss initiative "Trust Valley" at EPFL Innovation Park Foundation. The Trust Valley is a centre of excellence in digital trust and cybersecurity on Lake Geneva. Lennig is co-founder and President of the ICON NGO, based in Geneva, EPFL Innovation Park, Brussels, Paris, London, and Rennes. iCON brings together an international community of experts working on trust in cyberspace, with a focus on cybersecurity and emerging technologies. The NGO has created a tool and training called "Master your Digital Identity” which is made available to citizens to help raise awareness with the youth generation to the challenges of digital trust and dangers of the Internet. Lennig specializes in the "human factor" and she is an advisor and a trainer to various audiences such as the EPFL Innovation Park Foundation, prosecutors, Police, industry, banks, medical professionals, and also to the youth generations. She is also a founding member of the Swiss label Cyber-Safe.ch and is an expert of the group of data protection for the Swiss Confederation (2020-21).
Lennig created a summer school to reflect on responsible behaviors in cyberspace, which led to a meeting of 25 stakeholders from the public-private sector.
Lennig represents iCON at the Council of Europe. She was also a judge for the Challenge 9/12 GCSP (Geneva Centre for Security Policy) challenge.
Dr. Xiaodong Lee is the Founder and CEO of the Fuxi Institution, Vice Chairman of Internet Society of China, Young Global Leader(YGL) and Member of Global Future Council of World Economic Forum (WEF), Commissioner of the Global Commission on the Stability of Cyberspace (GCSC), Commissioner of Global Information Infrastructure Commission (GIIC), Professor and Director, ICT Laboratory for Internet Infrastructure, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of Center for Internet Governance and adjunct Professor of School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University (THUCIG).
Dr. Lee was the former CEO of China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) and former Vice President of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Dr. Christine Izuakor is the Founder and CEO of Cyber Pop-up, an on-demand cybersecurity services platform powered by vetted and highly skilled security freelancers. She is a global cybersecurity leader with a decade of experience solving complex cyber challenges at several Fortune 100 companies. At 27, she earned a Ph.D. in security engineering from the University of Colorado, becoming the youngest person and first African American woman to do so. Her research focused on critical infrastructure security and has been published in several international journals, including the International Journal of Critical Infrastructure Protection. Her original contributions to the security industry have also been presented in international conferences from South Korea to Italy.
Christine completed a master’s degree in information systems security from University of Houston in 2012 and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). In July 2017, her rapid growth within the technology industry landed her spots on Chicago Business Crain’s Tech 50 List and the 2018 Crain’s 20 in their 20s list. Christine has also been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Cheddar News, Hemispheres Magazine, MyStart TV, and more.
Kelvin Coleman is Executive Director at the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA). A dynamic cybersecurity leader, Kelvin has two decades of experience in high-stakes cybersecurity posts at the White House, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the private sector. As NCSA’s Executive Director, he is responsible for leading organizational growth; facilitating strategic partnerships and alliances with government, industry and non-profits; and acting as NCSA’s primary spokesperson.
During his career, he has conducted cybersecurity awareness tours in 49 states, briefing tech giants, local store owners and politicians alike, including 35 governors. He is recognized for his work forging partnerships between the public and private sectors – developing cybersecurity policy and products, improving national and local cyber-threat awareness and readiness, and establishing guidelines for workforce cybersecurity safety.
Sem Ponnambalam is the co-founder and President of xahive, a cybersecurity company providing Patented secure and compliant end-to-end data transmission for enterprises & IoT, along with enterprise education and governance management tools. xahive has offices in California, NY, Ottawa, Canada, & the UK.
At xahive, Sem is primarily responsible for global operations, including cybersecurity audits, business, and market development. With 18-plus years' experience in private and public sectors, Sem has been instrumental in building relationships & between xahive and California International Trade Center, SBDC California and New York, London & Partners, P20, New York Academy of Sciences, HIMSS, QA Consultants, BlackBerry, Red Hat and IBM globally.
Sem has co-authored three books on cybersecurity, co-authored several articles & white papers on cybersecurity, including two published in medical journal articles. She has been interviewed about the importance of cybersecurity by both print and television media in Canada. Also, Sem continues to lecture and facilitate an introduction to cybersecurity governance workshops and courses for businesses, associations, and academic institutions in the US, Canada, and Europe.
Sem was a panelist, representing xahive at the World Economic Forum in NY, speaking about the importance of cybersecurity. Also, Sem was part of a trade mission to Italy with the Prime Minister of Canada. Finally, Sem was selected as a delegate and panelist on cybersecurity to represent Canada at the G20 Youth Summit in Berlin.
Sem holds a BA Honours from Carleton University in Political Science concentration in International Relations and a MA in Legal Studies from Carleton University.
Joshua Arvin Lat is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of NuWorks Interactive Labs, Inc. He previously served as the CTO of 3 Australian-owned companies (SaaS Platform, AI-powered Startup, Digital Marketing Agency) and also the Director for Software Development and Engineering for multiple e-commerce startups in the past which allowed him to see the bigger picture and be more effective as a professional and leader. Years ago, he and his team won 1st place in a global cybersecurity competition with their published research paper on secure two-factor authentication systems. These past couple of years, he has been sharing his knowledge in several international conferences to discuss practical strategies for companies and professionals on security, machine learning, engineering, and management. In addition to this, he is an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Machine Learning Hero and serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in machine learning and machine learning engineering.
