Let me introduce myself, I'm Sophia and I have the incredible mission of bringing the Roteco community to life!

I started in July 2019 at the LEARN center at EPFL. I have a Bachelor's degree in Educational Science and a Master's degree in Adult Education from the University of Geneva. I also work as a substitute in elementary school at the DIP and in integrated classes (special education at the OMP).

I am also interested in entrepreneurship (UNIGE Best Idea Award, former member of Impact hub Geneva, former member of Geneus, training at Innosuisse...).

Dr. Salah Alnajem
Dr. Salah Alnajem Founder and CEO Information Age for I.T. Consultations

Dr. Salah Alnajem is the founder and CEO of Information Age for I.T. consultations (www.information-age-consulting.com). He is also an associate professor of Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing at Kuwait University (from 1998 until present). He received his Master’s and PhD degrees in Computational Linguistics from Essex University in England. He worked as a consultant in the Ministry of Information (From 2016 until 2018) and the Ministry of Education (From 2020 till present). He worked as a Consultant in the Office of Consultative Studies and Research at the Amiri Diwan (Royal Court) (from 2000 until 2015). He worked also as a Consultant in the Central Agency for Information Technology (from 2006 until 2015). Dr. Salah also worked as a consultant at the National Assembly (Kuwaiti Parliament) (From 2015 till 2017). He also worked as a consultant for the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Kuwait University (from 2004 till 2016 and from 2013 till 2015). He is a consultant for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (from 2013 till 2014). Dr. Salah also worked as a producer and host of Information Technology shows at Kuwait TV (from 2004 till 2018).

Dr. Salah Al-Najem won the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize 2017 in the E-Learning Category for his project (E-Learning and Virtual Classroom).


Ms. Mary Wangui Kinyanjui
Ms. Mary Wangui Kinyanjui Senior Librarian Kenya National Library Service

Mary is a public librarian who works for the Kenya National Library Service - Kibera Branch. She is an international trainer, mentor, coach, and tech-savvy. She trains on the use of Mobile devices to improve the livelihoods of the community members. Mary is a risk-taker and turns challenges into opportunities. She has started several programs that benefit the community, like free basic computer training, entrepreneurship training, mentorship and coaching training for the youths, talents, and fun exhibitions, to mention but a few.  Mary is also a trailblazer, leading change to help grow the impact of public libraries on the African continent through a networked and connected group of high-performing librarians. Kibera library has the following training programs: Digital, entrepreneurship, online working, mentorship, teacher/librarian training, and encourage children to be inspired, readers. 

Mary advocates for ‘Capacity building to foster new ICT - based services to meet the community needs’. The library is using ICT to equalize opportunities for all within the informal settlement. Mary is a radical librarian looking towards positive change within the community, providing services to support sustainable development goals (SDGs). She holds a Master’s Degree in Information Sciences.


Mr. Daniel Mah
Mr. Daniel Mah Vice President, Legal & Regulatory Affairs SES

Daniel C.H. Mah is Vice President, Legal & Regulatory Affairs, at SES, a leading global satellite operator. Mr. Mah is based in the Netherlands and is responsible for SES’s government policy and regulatory activities in the Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions, and was previously responsible for the same in North America. Mr. Mah has over 18 years of experience in telecommunications policy and regulation. He holds a Doctorate and a Master’s Degree in Law from Stanford University in the United States, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Murdoch University in Australia.


Ms. Hannah Thinyane
Dr. Hannah Thinyane Principal Research Fellow United Nations University

Dr. Hannah Thinyane is currently a Principal Research Fellow at United Nations University Institute in Macau, where she leads the Migrant Tech Research Project. Since 2016 she has led a multi-disciplinary team, innovating and inventing ICTs to support proactive and consistent screening of workers in situations of labour exploitation and human trafficking.

She has over 15 years’ academic and practical experience in the area of mobile computing, ICT for development, and human-computer interaction. During this time, she has undertaken applied computing research, conceptualizing, designing, developing and rolling out systems for underserved areas in Africa and Southeast Asia.  Through this work, she has made strong connections with mobile operators, local and national governments, inter-governmental organizations, industry and civil society organizations.
