Promoting 'Educational Resilience' in the post Covid-19 era using ICT

The impact of Covid19 has been felt in varying degrees by various nations around the globe. Significant impact from the pandemic has been felt in the education sector where many students and learners were disconnected from their teachers, learning spaces and from their formal learning experiences. 

In this workshop, we will discuss with experienced practitioners and distinguished stakeholders in promoting efforts to keep learners connected to their teachers despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. We will learn success stories from leading practitioners in the education sector in Africa on some of their efforts in sustaining learning through and beyond the pandemic. 

These efforts ensured that educational institutions and schools keep up with attaining the educational objectives and mandates provided in the local national policy on education and  contribute towards ensuring global quality education education by 2030.

Dike Felix

Dike Felix O is a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and currently a researcher at Fudan University, Shanghai China where am developing a model that explains how managers, policy makers and researchers can use transformational learning to promote environmental sustainability practices among individuals and in different societies.

Felix is also a consultant on promoting quality education towards achieving ESDG4 with specialty in educational assessment and. For example, he had developed a manual for assessing psycho-moto ICT (Information and Communication Technology) competencies for Junior Secondary School three (JS3) students in Enugu State, Nigeria.

He is passionate about topics and educational contents that promotes critical thinking and pro-environmental behavior change for sustainability.

In his leisure time, Felix likes playing football, reading articles and travelling.

Dr. Maria “Marinkie” Madiope
Dr. Maria “Marinkie” Madiope Campus Principal , Distance and e-Learning Campus University of Free State, Bloemfontein SOUTH AFRICA. Institute of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Fudan University, Shanghai, China

Marinkie Madiope is the Campus Principal of the Distance and ELearning Campus at the University of Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She has formerly been the Director of the University Teaching and Learning; Head Curriculum transformation at the University of South Africa, Instructional designer at Absa and Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa. She graduated from the University of the North with a BA;  BED; University of Johannesburg Masters in Computer Based Instruction; PHD at the University of South Africa Her studies focussed on using Mobile technology for research proposal writing.

 

Her research interest area is ICT, Curriculum design and development and Gender based violence. She has presented and published papers locally and internationally.   Expertise in ELearning is also one of her strong points; she has designed the Unisa Online Ethics course, which was launched in Geneva in 2015. Unisa currently offers the course internationally in collaboration with ethics SA and an international company, Globe ethics –giving her an international footprint. Marinkie has also designed and developed the first online course in Curriculum Transformation, which was piloted at UNISA in 2019.

 

As part of community engagement she is visible among the little-humans in the Africa Crèche Project to empowering women through the role she plays serving as the Chairperson of the Unisa Women’s forum, where she has grown the membership of UNISA women from 300 to 550. Marinkie is always there to care for women big and small. Dr Madiope is the winner of the Gender Activism: Advocacy and Promotion of Women's Rights and 2013, University of South Africa Woman of the Year Award 2013. She is also the recipient UNISA 2013 Best performer.

 

Dr Madiope has also worked on several projects within the African Union, as a task team member of the Virtual University of Africa, Task team member for design and development of the transformative leadership course for the AU etc... Dr Marinkie have been appointed as member of the Technical Working Group of the CJED and its vice-President. The Calestus Juma 3rd Executive dialogue celebrated Dr Madiope as “Women in Science” -2020 Celebrant.


Dr. Asogwa Henry
Dr. Asogwa Henry Lecturer, University of Nigeria and Institute of Developmental Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka University of Nigeria, Nsukka

Asogwa  T. Henry is  a  Research  Fellow  in the  Institute  for  Development  Studies (IDS), University of Nigeria Enugu Campus as well as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu Nigeria. Currently, Asogwa T. Henry is a Ph.D.  Research Student in the, Department of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe  University Awka, with research interest in Health and Development Microeconomics  which covers his research areas and publication. Having Consulted widely in Public Policy issues on State   Advocacy   Voice Initiative (SAVI) in partnership with UNICEF and DFID on State Budget analysis and  African  Development  Solution  International  (ADSI)  in  partnership  with Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to mention but a few.  He is married to Asogwa Angela kelechi and they are both blessed with Asogwa Avishai Ifechineme and Asogwa Sonia Mmachim.

This workshop provides information regarding efforts already made by leading educational experts in mitigating the impact of covid19 pandemic on providing quality education to African countries since the pandemic started. 

It also provide evidence for encouragement to other institutions and educational communities on what can be done to mitigate the negative impacts of Covid19 pandemic on education and in building resilient education for similar challenges in the future.
