An Information Society for all and an opportunity for all to comment
The results of the second meeting of the preparatory committee for the World Summit on the Information Society are now available on the WSIS website. The Draft declaration of principles and Draft action plan include input from observers and are available for comment by sending an email to wsis.ap@itu.int  All comments received by 31 May 2003 will be included in a reference document that will easily identify where these contributions may be included in the basic working documents of the Summit. 

Awarding Youthful Initiatives
The Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) has launched the GKP Youth Award to bring international recognition to the outstanding work of young people who have used ICTs for the promotion of development in their communities. The winner will be selected from finalists who present their projects at the ICT4D Platform, to be held in conjunction with WSIS in Geneva in December 2003. Submission deadline: 31 August 2003.

An information challenge to scientists of the world
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has challenged the scientific community to bring the benefits of science information to all. He recognized the scientific community, with its basic concern for human welfare, as an indispensable partner of the UN.  

Inventing the Future in International Telecommunications
The Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, Mr Yoshio Utsumi, invites you to join him in creating a future where all citizens benefit from the ICTs tools to make the world a more equitable, peaceful and sustainable place for all. He made his comments in the latest edition of the UN Chronicle.

3rd International Congress: Information Society - the Strategy for Mankind Development in 21st Century, Kyiv, Ukraine was devoted to the analysis of problems and strategy for establishment of the information society in the countries with different levels of social and economic development.

Mauritius Conference on Access to ICTs for All, at Pointe aux Piments, Mauritius brought together 22 or more Ministers from South African countries, Egypt, Morocco, Mozambique, Malawi and Lesotho. 

11 Apr – 12 Apr 2003
Symposium on e-Inclusion: “Towards an Inclusive Information Society in Europe”, Heraklion, Crete, organized by the Hellenic Ministry of Transport and Communications in cooperation with the European Commission, Members of the European Parliament, EC Commissioners and European Organizations following the e-Europe initiative.

Bridging the Gender Digital Divide in Africa

A joint initiative of UN-ICT Task force, UNDP, OSCAL, UNFIP and UNIFEM, will be launched in Kampala, Uganda on 5-6 May 2003 and will include a visit to an ITU supported Telecentre in Nakaseke. For more information on the Gender Caucus of WSIS click here.
