2 Use Case Description
21 Description
The AI-Powered Agricultural Contact Center for Farmers was developed in response to the
deepening crisis in African agriculture, where farmers who form the backbone of the continent’s
food systems lack timely, localized, and affordable access to expert farming advice, with a
collapsing agricultural extension network, rising climate variability, and low levels of digital
literacy, most farmers rely on outdated practices or word-of-mouth guidance. AI-Powered
Agricultural Contact Center aims to democratize agricultural knowledge by providing a
multilingual, AI-powered voice platform that delivers real-time, expert support through voice
calls and SMS, accessible even on basic 2G-enabled phones. By supporting indigenous
languages like Shona and Ndebele (languages in Zimbabwe), the solution ensures inclusivity
and relevance in rural contexts. Technologically, the platform integrates fine-tuned local
language models based on GPT-2, text-to-speech systems, and APIs for weather, pest, and
market data. It is designed for scalability and optimized for offline-first environments, enabling
AI-driven crop diagnostics, fertilizer recommendations, and market insights.
Our AI-Powered Agricultural Contact Center solution has a greater global impact standard. It
introduces the first AI-powered multilingual voice interface for farmers in Zimbabwe , projects
a 40% reduction in post-harvest losses and a 20% increase in eco-friendly farming practices
and targets the digital empowerment of over 10,000 rural farmers by 2026 70% of whom will
access the service on low-end phones. By addressing SDGs 1, 2, 9, and 13, the platform is
expected to raise household incomes by 25%, improve food security, and strengthen resilience
to climate shocks . AI-Powered Agricultural Contact Center also redefines the agricultural
extension model by bridging the 1:2000 extension officer gap with always available, AI driven
support while breaking access barriers for illiterate, elderly, and disabled users through voice-
based interaction in native languages. Our mission is reaching 50% female participation by
year three and scaling across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region
through open-source NLP toolkits, our AI-Powered Agricultural Contact Center stands as a
transformative and inclusive digital innovation for social good.
