Workshop on “Reimagining Disaster Risk Reduction: The Role
of Standardization and Innovative Technologies”
Key Outcomes
1. Strengthened Collaboration for Standards Development: The workshop underscored
the importance of international collaboration in developing and implementing standards
for disaster risk reduction. Participants called for greater synergy between governments,
international organizations, and the private sector to promote the adoption of interoperable
technological solutions for disaster management.
2. Emerging Technologies as Catalysts for Disaster Resilience: The discussions highlighted
the transformative potential of AI, IoT, and big data in enhancing early warning systems and
improving response times. The importance of predictive analytics in risk assessment was
emphasized as a critical tool for governments and communities to prepare for and mitigate
the effects of disasters.
3. AI for Agriculture and Food Security: With agriculture being highly vulnerable to climate-
related risks, the role of AI in precision farming, drought monitoring, and desertification
mitigation was a key takeaway. The integration of technological solutions in the agricultural
sector was seen as vital for ensuring food security and building climate-resilient communities.
4. Institutional and Policy Frameworks: The workshop participants called for the strengthening
of institutional frameworks that support the integration of technology into disaster risk reduction
strategies. Policymakers were encouraged to develop regulations that facilitate the use of
cutting-edge technologies while ensuring data privacy and ethical use.
5. Call for Continued Dialogue and Knowledge Sharing: There was consensus on the
need for continued multi-stakeholder dialogue and knowledge sharing, particularly between
developing and developed countries, to ensure that all regions can benefit from advancements
in DRR technologies.
