Résumé :

The growing need for communication and digital technology has prompted all developing countries to make efforts to keep pace with technological progress. With this in mind, our country's senior authorities have opted to make digital technology a lever of progress for all Chadians by 2030, with a quality Internet connection for all. To achieve this goal, strategies have been put in place through the strategic plan 2020-2030 and the CHAD CONNECT 2030 programme.
The purpose of this contribution is to report on the efforts and strategies used by the Government of Chad to accelerate digital transformation. Its commitment is reflected in the ICT framework project for the modernization of Chad's communication infrastructure, which involves extending optical fibre network coverage in urban and rural areas to connect the population to high-speed Internet.
The Ministry has been opening up the country since 2017 with a view to connecting it to high-speed Internet via submarine cables through neighbouring countries, namely:
- An 870 km optical fibre link connecting Chad through the Central African Republic and Cameroon via Mbere to the non-operational SAT3 cable;
- A 1 142 km link connecting Chad to Sudan via Adre with a landing on the Mediterranean submarine cable SAT1 and SAT2 at Port Sudan: it is not operational because of the war in Sudan;
- A 35 km optical fibre link connecting Chad to Cameroon via N'Djamena, with an interconnection to the CAMTEL network via SAT3, the only operational link connecting the country to the Internet;
- A 503 km optical fibre link connecting Chad and Niger as part of the Trans-Saharan Backbone Project, with interconnection on the international network to Niger, Mali and Algeria under construction.
