Résumé :

The revision of WTDC Resolution 63 is driven by the exponential growth of connected devices, the critical expansion of IoT, 5G/IMT-2020 networks, and cloud services, which necessitate the continued transition to IPv6 to address IPv4 address exhaustion and support future digital infrastructure. While emphasizing the importance of IPv6 deployment, this resolution try to avoid speed-up or enforce this process due to the need to protect investments in existing IPv4-based infrastructure during the transition period. A core focus is placed on capacity building, knowledge sharing, and multi-stakeholder cooperation to ensure sustainable implementation, particularly in developing countries.
Key modifications highlighted as follows:
Strengthen the commitment to facilitate the exchange of experiences and information on all aspects of IPv6 implementation among all stakeholders to unify efforts and accelerate the transition.
Enhances directives to BDT to lead capacity building, develop adjustment guidelines for organizational structures, maintain a dedicated ITU IPv6 information portal with global monitoring links, and submit annual progress reports to the ITU Council and the next WTDC.
Introducing for Member States specific calls to action, including promoting IPv6-enabled client equipment, activating IPv6 in networks and services, ensuring government and private sector digital services are accessible over IPv6, and fostering cooperation between ISPs and other relevant stakeholders for faster deployment.
These revisions underscore ITU's commitment to a coordinated, inclusive, and action-oriented approach to IPv6 transition, balancing future-proofing with current operational realities.
