This contribution was initially intended for Question 7/1 from the previous study period, which corresponds to Question 5/1 for the 2026-2029 study period.
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) represent a real opportunity for persons with disabilities, whatever their disability, to integrate them into both daily and professional life, provided that their accessibility is taken into account. Unfortunately, even though ICTs make up more than 10 per cent of the population, ICTs accessibility is not a priority for suppliers or developers involved in ICTs or for web designers. However, all the technical repositories that make it possible to have accessible ICTs do exist. Even if it is necessary in some cases to have dedicated and specific solutions for people with disabilities, they must be limited to what is not covered by standard products in order to limit costs. Considering accessibility in the design phase of a product leads to marginal additional costs, which is not the case when trying to make an existing product accessible.
