Abstract :

Technological advancements, particularly drones, have become pivotal in modern Disaster Risk Management (DRM). This paper examines the integration of drones across the four key phases of DRM: Mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery-with a specific focus on Rwanda. In recent years, the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has gained traction globally due to their versatility and real-time data collection capabilities. In Rwanda, where the risks of natural disasters such as floods, landslides, drought, and volcanic eruptions are prevalent, drones can offer significant support in minimizing the impact of such disasters. This study draws from the latest research and case studies to show the vital contributions drones can make in enhancing Rwanda's DRM strategies. This study is also informed by the existing applications of drone technology in Rwanda's health and agricultural sectors.
