Abstract :

This contribution was initially intended for Question 1/1 and Question 5/1 from the previous study period, which corresponds to Question 1/1 for the 2026-2029 study period.
The GSOA White Paper discusses how satellite technology can help solve the challenge of connecting the remaining 4% of the global population that lacks broadband internet access. It highlights that while 96% of people are covered by mobile networks, this coverage exists on only 20% of the Earth's landmass. The remaining unconnected populations are scattered across vast, sparsely populated areas where traditional terrestrial infrastructure is economically unfeasible. The 4% of the population residing in these areas represents an untapped reservoir of human potential, creativity, and economic opportunity. Satellite solutions offer a cost-effective alternative for these unserved regions. For countries to benefit from space-based solutions, Governments and Regulators play an essential role to embrace satellite as critical part of connectivity solution and encourage its adoption.
