Abstract :

Japan is highly exposed to natural disasters, and mobile communications are essential for rescue operations, evacuation support and safety confirmation. This contribution shares NTT DOCOMO's experience in using non-terrestrial networks to support disaster response and communications resilience in Japan. It focuses on practical functions and lessons learned from the use of GEO satellite communications, LEO satellite backhauls, direct-to-device satellite connectivity and high-altitude platform stations, for consideration in the final report of question 3/1.
