Abstracto :

This contribution outlines BDT activities related to ICT/digital accessibility and consumer protection, aimed at advancing regional and global digital inclusion and supporting the equal and equitable use of ICT products and services by all people, including persons and groups in vulnerable situations, as defined in Resolution 64. It provides an update to ITU Members following the ITU-D Study Group 1 meeting held in April 2026.
From the perspective of ITU-D Study Group Question 5/1 on consumer protection and empowerment, and meaningful accessibility for all, the contribution highlights the complementary relationship between accessibility and consumer protection.
The contribution presents the BDT report on the activities that support policymakers and decision-makers in integrating accessibility into policy, regulatory and consumer-protection frameworks.
By embedding accessibility in the design and delivery of digital products and services, these activities can help reduce barriers in the use of ICT products and services and strengthen consumer protection and empowerment, especially for persons with disabilities, persons with specific needs as well as other groups in vulnerable situations as defined in WTDC-25 Resolution 64.
This BDT work contributes to ensuring that all consumers can access information, use ICT products and services, make informed choices and exercise their rights on an equal and equitable basis.
