5.1.8 Environmental protection
5.1.8.1 Task
The standardization of environmental protection should fulfil the service requirements of industries
and residential dwellings related to environmental protection in SSC.
NOTE – The services of environmental protection include but are not limited to: EMF, solid waste
management, e‐waste management, pollution source monitoring, toxic substance monitoring, and noise
monitoring.
The tasks include, but are not limited to:
developing Recommendations for integrated environmental assessment in SSC (EMF, solid
waste management, e‐waste management, pollution source monitoring, toxic substance
monitoring, noise monitoring).
developing guidelines for exposure to environment pollution (EMF, chemicals, radiation,
noise, etc.).
providing the necessary collaboration for joint activities in this field between ITU‐T and
SDOs, consortia and forums conducting related work on SSC.
5.1.8.2 Gap
Standards related to the services of environmental protection mentioned above are still required in
the following areas:
integrated environmental assessment;
exposure to environment pollution.
5.1.8.3 Relationships
ITU‐T WP3/SG5 (ICT and climate change).
ISO/TC 282 (Water re‐use).
ISO/TC 275 (Sludge recovery, recycling, treatment and disposal).
ISO/TC 265 (Carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and geological storage).
ISO/PC 248 (Sustainability criteria for bioenergy).
ISO/TC 207 (Environmental management).
5.1.9 Climate change
5.1.9.1 Task
Standardization related to climate change should fulfil the service requirements of industries related
to climate change in SSC.
NOTE 1 – The services of ICT and climate change for SSC include, but are not limited to: tackling climate
change in cities.
The tasks include, but are not limited to:
developing guidelines for climate change assessment (adaption and mitigation) in SSC.
developing guidelines for ICT use in GHG emissions.
providing the necessary collaboration for joint activities in this field between ITU‐T and
SDOs, consortia and forums conducting related work on SSC.
NOTE 2 – [ITU‐T TR climate] discusses climate change adaption in cities.
