Open consultations on the participation of relevant stakeholders in the activities of ITU related to WSIS.

In response to Resolution 141 of the Plenipotentiary Conference, a Council Working Group has been established to conduct a study on the participation of all relevant stakeholders in the activities of the Union related to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)

In order to find out about the views of as many relevant stakeholders as possible, the Resolution mandated the Council Working group to conduct open consultations on this issue.  

During its last meeting on 29-30 January 2008, the Working Group agreed on the modalities and timeframe of the open consultations.

The Group also agreed on a set of questions that all entities that were accredited to the World Summit on the Information Society would be invited to reply. The group further decided to invite ITU Membership to reply to additional questions.    

In this context, ITU would like to invite you to reply, by 15 June 2008, to the questionnaire below on the participation of relevant stakeholders.

All relevant answers to the questionnaire will be considered by the Group at its next meeting in September 2008 and serve as input for the study. At its 2009 session, the ITU Council will present a final report on the study for the use of Member States in preparing their proposals for the next Plenipotentiary Conference.

  1. What specific efforts may be needed to mobilize and ensure the meaningful and effective participation of all relevant stakeholders (that are not members of the ITU) from developing countries, and stakeholders in the development field?
