Open consultations on the participation of relevant stakeholders in the activities of ITU related to WSIS.

Resolution 141 (Antalya, 2006) established an ITU Council Working Group mandated to develop and conduct open consultations, also using electronic means, on the participation of relevant stakeholders in the activities of the ITU related to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

During its last meeting on 29-30 January 2008, the Council Working Group (WG-Study) agreed on  the modalities  and timeframe of the open consultations. The Group also agreed on a set of questions that all entities that were accredited to the World Summit on the Information Society would be invited to reply to. The group further decided to invite ITU Membership to reply to additional questions. 

In this context, ITU would like to invite you to reply, by 15 June 2008, to the questionnaire below on the inclusion of relevant stakeholders.

All answers to the questionnaire will be considered by the Working Group at its next meeting in September 2008 and serve as input for the study.

  1. What criteria could be suggested for defining which stakeholders (that are not members of the ITU) might be “relevant” to participate in ITU activities related to WSIS, taking into account f) above? 

 
 

  1. What are the challenges (including financial) to stakeholders (that are not members of the ITU) posed by their participation in the activities of the Union related to WSIS, and how can such challenges be met? 

 
 

  1. How can existing mechanisms (e.g. partnerships, symposia, seminars, workshops, focus groups, policy forums, experts) for participation by stakeholders (that are not members of ITU) be used more effectively, and what other mechanisms could be suggested? 

 
 

  1. What specific efforts may be needed to mobilize and ensure the meaningful and effective participation of all relevant stakeholders (that are not members of the ITU) from developing countries, and stakeholders in the development field?
