SocialElectricity
The application “SocialElectricity” has been awarded the winner of the second ITU Green ICT Application Challenge.

“SocialElectricity” is a Facebook application that allows people to compare their electricity footprint with their friends and also their neighborhood/village/town in a country-wide scale. The application aims to help people become aware of their electricity consumption and manage it more rationally. By effective and realistic comparisons, the consumers may perceive their energy behaviour and take steps to reduce their electricity and carbon footprint.

“SocialElectricity” has been deployed around Cyprus, offering also detailed statistics about the domestic energy consumption around the country.

It is a research project of the Computer Science Department, University of Cyprus, in collaboration with the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC).
