The Sixth
Regional Workshop on Information Society Measurement in Latin America
and the Caribbean (September 21-23, 2010) was organized by OSILAC,
the Observatory for the Information Society in Latin America and the
Caribbean (initiative from UNECLAC, with the support of ICA-IDRC), in
collaboration with the Uruguayan Institute of Statistics (INE), the
Agencia de Gobierno Electrónico y Sociedad de la Información (AGESIC)
and the Statistics Division of UNECLAC with the support of IDB. The
meeting was attended by National Statistical Offices of 23 countries
from Latin America and the Caribbean. Additionally, other institutions
like national agencies in charge of ICT policy making, universities and
civil society participated. From the international organizations, ITU
and OEI attended the meeting.
The meeting focused
on the following topics: (1) assessing progress, challenges and
synergies on ICT measurement; (2) discussing a proposed collaborative
work for the improvement of statistical processes to support the design
and monitoring of public policies; (3) presenting advanced experiences
in the use of ICT indicators for the implementation of digital agendas
and/or national observatories; (4) suggestions for the formulation of
indicators for the Regional Plan eLAC2015; (5) discussing and sharing
experiences in the development of ICT indicators for monitoring the
Millennium Development Goals and WSIS targets.
