Event Description
The ITU
Regional Seminar on Costs and Tariffs, held in Maputo, 4-8 May 2009,
was organized jointly by the
Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) and the Telecommunication
Standardization Bureau (TSB) of the International Telecommunication
Union (ITU) in collaboration with the Instituto Nacional das
Comunicações de Moçambique.
A Regional Meeting of the Study Group 3 Regional Group for Africa
(SG3RG-AFR) (former TAF Group) followed the seminar from 6-8 May
2009.
During these meetings, work progressed regarding ITU-T
Recommendation D.156 and the ITRs, as well as work on tariff and
economic issues such as cost modeling. This work included
regulatory issues such as international Internet connectivity, and discussion
sessions were conducted to promote and foster dialogue and exchange of
experiences among participants.
These meetings not only acted as a forum for the exchange
of views, successful strategies and regulatory approaches in the
region, but also gave regulators a better understanding of critical
areas such as broadband policies and tariff regulation, fulfilling
one of the main objectives of the Regional Group to provide
telecommunication regulators with the information and tools they
need to create appropriate regulatory pricing frameworks in order to
facilitate further development in this sector. |
