Monrovia, Liberia, 2015 April 23

In recognition of the International Girls in ICT Day on April 23, 2015, iLab Liberia under the Liberia IT Revolution Project hosted a Girls in ICT
Event with the objective of bringing together between 75 – 120 girls and young women from different institutions around Monrovia, informing them of the
countless opportunities and advantages of engaging in ICT, and encouraging them to consider and pursue ICT as a career path.

Representatives of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication as well as other media representatives graced the occasion. Madam Angelique Weeks,
chairperson of the Liberia Telecommunication Authority served as honored guest and keynote speaker. There was a video message from the former ITU
Secretary General, Dr. Hamadoun I. Toure, and a success story from Ms. Siobhan Burnette, a practicing female ICT personnel in Liberia. Other activities
included interactions and networking, brainstorming sessions, group discussions and presentations.

At the end of the event, there was a general consensus of the need for more girls and young women to pursue careers in ICT, and a huge expression of
interest from the participants in what existing opportunities were available to support their quest for pursuing careers in ICT.
