World Telecommunication Day (WTD 2001)

Theme: The Internet: challenges, opportunities and prospects

17 May 2001

World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated annually on 17 May since 1969. The date marks the anniversary of the founding of ITU on 17 May 1865, when the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in Paris. In 2006, the name of the event was changed to World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD).
