Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) Objectives

  • The Radiocommunication Assembly was held from 26-30 October 2015 with 457 participants representing 96 Administrations and 38 Sector Members and Academia. The Radiocommunication Assembly made substantial revisions to the working methods of the ITU-R Study Groups to streamline and clarify the procedures and approved 36 new or revised ITU-R Resolutions.
  • The World Radiocommunication Conference 2015 (WRC-15) was held in Geneva from 2 to 27 November 2015. A total of 3,275 participants representing 162 Member States and 130 observer organizations attended WRC-15. The WRC-15 Final Acts are freely available to the public. The updated version of the Radio Regulations (RR-15) is to be produced during 2016.
  • Throughout the year, ITU-R continued to process space and terrestrial notices and other related activities. The Radio Regulations Board met three times. ITU-R software was improved and new applications were delivered.
  • New and revised Recommendations were approved; numerous reports were published. Assistance was provided to members, especially in developing countries, and liaison / support was provided to development activities.​

​​Objective R.1​​

Meet, in a rational, equitable, efficient, economical and timely way, the ITU membership’s requirements for radio-frequency spectrum and satellite-orbit resources, while avoiding harmful interference​.

Objective R.2

Provide for worldwide connectivity and interoperability, improved performance, quality, affordability and timeliness of service and overall system economy in radiocommunications, including through the development of international standards.

Objective R.3

Foster the acquisition and sharing of knowledge and know-how on radiocommunications​.​
