ITU-T SG20 Regional Group for Asia and the Pacific (SG20RG-AP)- To disseminate information on the relevant work of Study Group 20 within the Asia and Pacific region;
- To facilitate the participation of member states, sector members and academia of the region in ITU-T Study Group 20 and related meetings on topics relating to Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins, citiverse and Smart sustainable cities & communities (SSC&C), at least when these meetings are held in the concerned region;
- To collaborate with the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT), which serves as liaison between the region's administrations, regulators, operators, manufacturers and academia in matters as per the SG20 mandate;
- To encourage the participation of experts from ITU-T member states, sector members and academia from the Asia pacific region in ITU-T SG20RG-AP meetings and implementation of ITU-T Y-series Recommendations developed by SG20 in the region;
- To boost the standard developing capabilities of the countries in the region, in collaboration with APT, with a view to facilitate the interoperability of IoT services within smart sustainable cities & communities;
- To identify standardization gaps and encourage substantive contributions from the region including on digital services for SSC&C, and digital transformation relevant IoT, digital twin and SSC&C aspects and other potential new areas of interest for ITU-T Study Group 20;
- To foster participation of countries in the region to workshops and other ITU-T Study Group 20 related events;
- To strengthen standard-making capabilities within the region in accordance with Resolution 44 (Rev. New Delhi, 2024) on “Bridging the Standardization Gap between developing and developed countries" and Resolution 98 on “Enhancing the standardization of Internet of Things, digital twins and smart sustainable cities and communities for global development" (Rev. New Delhi, 2024);
- To collaborate with Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) to identify the regional priorities and to advance on issues related to the mandate of ITU-T Study Group 20 including but not limited to: Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins, smart sustainable cities and communities (SSC&C), interoperability between IoT applications for different IoT verticals; quality of service (QoS) and end-to-end performance for IoT and its applications including SSC&C; big data aspects of IoT and smart sustainable cities and communities; e-services and smart services for smart sustainable cities and communities; IoT and SSC&C data analytics and intelligent control, artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain and other emerging technologies in the context of IoT and SSC&C; trust, safety, security and identification etc. for IoT, digital twin and SSC&C;
- To identify and study forward looking technologies within the mandate of ITU-T Study Group 20 and trends key for the region with a view to share the results with SG20; and
- To collaborate with Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT), other regional groups and regional standards developing organisations on IoT, digital twins and smart sustainable cities related matters in order to build synergies.
