​​​Terms of Reference and Working Methods of SG12 Regional Group for the Americas (SG12RG-AMR)

Objectives
  1. ​To exchange information regarding the relevant work of ITU-T Study Group 12;
  2. To encourage an active participation in the work of ITU-T Study Group 12 by Regulators, Solution Vendors and Operators from the Americas Region, and the implementation of the ITU-T Recommendations on Performance/QoS and QoE;
  3. To facilitate the participation of  member states, sector members, associates and academia from the Americas Region in the ITU-T Study Group 12 and related meetings on QoS and QoE topics, at least when these meetings are held in  Americas Region;
  4. To act as a liaison hub between the region’s administrations, regulators, operators, manufacturers and academia of the regional countries, on aspects ​that concern the SG12 mandate, such as development of international standards (ITU-T Recommendations) in terms of quality of operation, quality of service and perceived quality covering the entire spectrum of terminals, networks and services, from circuit-switched calling on fixed networks to multimedia applications on mobile packet-based networks, digital financial services, assessment of connectivity, among others;
  5. To support initiatives, projects, programmes, or activities leading to the Group’s strengthening and evolution, inside and outside the region;
  6. To foster regional capacity building through workshops and seminars;
  7. To strengthen standard-making capabilities within the region in accordance with WTSA Resolution 44 (Rev. Geneva, 2022) on Bridging the Standardization Gap between developed and developing countries;
  8. To take appropriate steps to facilitate meetings of the regional groups in order to promote the necessary synergies among the Sectors and thereby improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the study groups;
  9. To cooperate closely with the relevant respective regional organizations, standardization bodies and ITU regional offices, and to report on their work in their regions;
