
James has over 10 years relevant experience with the development of environmental strategies and legislation, use and assessment of policy instruments, environmental licensing, enforcement and auditing. Over the years he has been a team leader and key negotiator of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) concerning chemicals and hazardous waste, including the 2013 “Geneva Statement on the Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste”. He is the immediate past Vice President of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movement of hazardous waste and their disposal.
He was until recently the head of hazardous waste management at the Zambia Environmental Management Agency. He now works as the Projects Coordinator at the Basel Convention Regional Centre (Africa Institute) for English speaking African Countries based in Pretoria, South Africa. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management).
