ITU Workshop on ICT Innovations in emerging economies

Introduction

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is organizing and hosting a Workshop on "ICT Innovations in Emerging Economies" on 18 September 2013 at the ITU premises,Geneva, Switzerland.  The sixth FG Innovation Meeting will take place from 16 to 17 September 2013, Geneva, before the workshop, at the same venue and will also be hosted by the ITU.

Objectives

Companies and states are constantly looking for effective means to stimulate innovation. In general, companies work towards securing new potential revenue streams by engaging in innovative products, solutions, and services deployments. On the other side, governments constantly work towards achieving the maximum possible socio-economic development by means of development oriented strategies, policies, and initiatives. Innovation is considered by the whole industry as a key door towards opening up potentially new business opportunities, while achieving efficiently the targeted economic development. 

 Crafting such successful strategies, policies, and action items brings crucial questions which this workshop intends to tackle:
The objective of the workshop is to explore the potential benefits related to the role of standardization and the effect of bringing innovations to the ITU-T standardization activities on the development of companies, industries, and countries. The workshop will also tackle the major obstacles facing entrepreneurs in bringing their innovations to standardization with a clear mandate of recommending effective strategies, policies, in addition to actions for their proper inclusion.
 

Target audience

ITU Member States, FG Innovation members,  ICT innovation companies, ICT research organizations , ICT service providers, ICT startups, and academia.
