Forum on "Powering Smart Cities with the Internet of Things" - to be jointly organized by ITU, UN-Habitat, UNESCO, UNEP
Nassau, The Bahamas, 17-18 December 2015 (Morning only)
Introduction
As of today, cities contribute 50-60% of the global greenhouse gas emissions and produce 50% of the world’s waste. On the flip side, cities contribute approximately 75% of the world’s GDP while accounting for 75% of the global energy consumption. Urban populations are increasing, with cities expected to accommodate 70% of the world’s population by 2050. In this scenario, the ‘Internet of Things (IoT)’ is a key enabler to make cities become ‘smarter’, ‘more sustainable’ and livable.
This forum will provide a platform to discuss why the Internet of Things will be at the heart of smart city transformation.
This forum is jointly organized by ITU, UN-Habitat and UNESCO.
