Markus Terho is Head of Sustainability at Nokia and has the global responsibility for managing corporate responsibility activities in the company. This includes environmental and social responsibility, Nokia’s social investment portfolio as well as disaster relief and charity donations of Nokia. In this role he drives the sustainability initiatives, integration of sustainability into Nokia strategy and targets across the company. Prior to his present position, from 2005-2012, Markus worked as Director, Sustainability in Operations, and has contributed to the development of Nokia's global sustainability strategy and activities with a particular focus on implementing leading-edge local sustainability programs. He is actively involved with industry wide co-operation and works with a range of telecom operators, NGOs, academia and national authorities around the world to expand Nokia’s sustainability co-operation and awareness. Since 2007 he has been a GeSI Board member and from 2012 onwards he has served as vice chairman of the organization. He joined Nokia in 1994 and has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology, Finland.
