Bill Hoffman_V2.jpgWilliam F. Hoffman III (Bill) manages the UL Environment science team working on the technical basis for the development of standards and guidance for standards including green chemistry and sustainable chemistry aspects of product environmental performance, validation of claims and product certification.  The goal is to provide a strong technical basis to product environmental performance by using a deep scientific analysis of the environmental impact of a product while also assuring companies are producing the product using environmentally progressive manufacturing methods.
Formerly Bill was the Director of Sustainability Services for a non-for-profit consulting firm where he was responsible for strategy and deployment of sustainability services.  He also managed the Chicago Waste to Profit Network which was responsible for the diversion of 40,000 tons of material from local landfills and 30,000 tons of CO2 saved as a result of those diversions.
While at Motorola Bill worked on the development of internal standards governing the chemical content of products and was heavily involved in external standardization efforts for environmental issues in electronics.  These standards often included consideration of chemical risk, trends in regulation, business need, product design requirements and environmental management trends.
