Introduction

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is organizing a one-day Workshop on Disaster Relief Systems, Network Resiliency and Recovery on 20th May 2013 at
the Diamond Cliff & Spa in Phuket, Thailand, at the kind invitation of the National Broadcasting & Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand.

The Fifth meeting of the Focus Group on Disaster Relief Systems, Network Resiliency and Recovery (FG-DR&NRR) will take place at the same venue from 20 to 24 May 2013 in conjunction with the workshop and will also be hosted by the NBTC of Thailand.

Objectives

This workshop will facilitate the discussion of the Focus Group on Disaster Relief Systems, Network Resiliency and Recovery (FG-DR&NRR) by providing information on natural disasters, rescue/recovery operations, support for victims, preparation for possible disasters, etc.  Experiences of Thailand and other countries will be shared to progress the work of the Focus Group.

Through this workshop and the Fifth meeting of the Focus Group, participants are expected to learn from other experiences including the Tsunami which hit Phuket in December 2004 and to collect valuable information from experts from Thailand and other parts of the world.

Participants of the Focus Group on Disaster Relief Systems, Network Resiliency and Recovery and related experts from Thailand.
