Joint ITU/ATU Workshop on "Cybersecurity strategy in African countries"

Introduction

The International Telecommunication Union and the African Telecommunication Union have jointly organized a 3-day workshop on "Cybersecurity Strategy in African Countries" from 24 to 26 July 2016 at the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) headquarters in Khartoum, Republic of Sudan. During this workshop, training sessions on information sharing and on national strategy took place on 26 July 2016.

This workshop was followed by the second meeting of ITU-T Study Group 17 Regional Group for Africa (SG17RG-AFR) from 27 July 2016 (09:00 hours) to 28 July 2016. Participation to the second meeting of ITU-T Study Group 17 Regional Group for Africa is open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, ITU-T Associates and ITU Academia.

Both events took place at the same venue, kindly hosted by the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) of the Republic of Sudan.
     
Objectives

The main objective of the workshop was to build capacity and to share experiences and best practices in countries and to provide information regarding the status of implementations of existing cyber security strategies; to identify any gaps; and to yield a way forward.

Target Audience

The workshop brought together leading specialists in the field, from developing countries, ITU Member States, regulatory agencies, policy makers, private sector (service providers, telecommunication operators, manufacturers and solution providers), academia, standardization organizations, forums and consortia.
