Overview of ITU, Vijay Mauree, Programme Coordinator, TSB, ITU

The presentation will introduce the work of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau and highlight the main standardization work which is currently ongoing at the level of the Study Groups.
ICT Standardization at the International Level, Gary Fishman, Former ITU-T TSAG Chairman

A high-level overview of the international standardization environment, observations on the standardization aspects and international aspects one has to face, and an introduction to the interactive discussions to take place on Day 2 regarding your future engagement at the national and international levels.
Bridging the Standardization Gap (BSG), Vijay Mauree, Programme Coordinator, TSB, ITU

Bridging the Standardization Gap is one of the strategic goals of ITU-T. The presentation will focus on the ITU-T activities to help bridge the standardization gap that has been implemented pursuant to Resolution 44 of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-08) . The importance of having an ICT Standardization Secretariat at national level is outlined to help better coordinate activities in international standards bodies.

There have been many developments on ICT in Lao PDR in the past few years with the effects of both the internal and external factors.
The government has visions to reduce poverty and turning the country from land-locked to land-linked country. Lao PDR is aware of the opportunities and challenges arising from its strategic location and the current status of ICT in the world. As a net service importing country, Laos imports ICT manufactured goods from neighboring countries like China, Vietnam, and Thailand and other leading manufacturing countries like Korea, Japan.
Lao PDR has faced many challenges in ICT developments. In July 2011, decree 67/22/7/2011, Ministry of Pots and Telecommunications (MPT) was officially established. Under the new leadership, there have been many new developments to address many facing challenges including the standardization.
This presentation will show some the current ICT status developments specially related to standardization that MPT has been involved since its establishment and will also present brief overview of the ICT standardization Challenges in Laos.
Cloud Computing work in ITU-T, Chae Sub Lee, Chairman ITU-T SG 13

Cloud computing is one of the important emerging subject in ICT. This presentation starts with why need cloud computing and introduces Cloud computing related standard works which are being progressed in ITU-T. Key essential issues such as cloud computing definitions, eco-systems, reference architectures and services including security aspects are introduced based on current study of ITU-T.
Future Networks and NGN, T. Egawa, ITU-T SG 13

Targeting 2015-20, ITU-T has been studying Future Networks since 2009 and has been standardizing them as Y.3000 series recommendations. The talk describes its four major objectives and twelve design goals with observations behind them, relationship with the current networks such as NGN, and the current hot topics such as cloud computing.
Emergency Communications, T. Egawa, ITU-T SG 13

ITU has long been working to combat disasters. Its three sectors, development, radio and standardization have been working on e.g., assisting developing disaster relief planning, assigning spectrum and standardizing technologies for emergency communications. This talk provides an overview of these activities focusing on the recently established disaster Focus Group (FG-DR&NRR) in ITU-T.
Telco CDN interconnection for Global Content Exchange, Youngseok Lee, Director, KT

As the background of Telco CDN interconnection for Global Content Exchange, the CDN Market Status and Global CDN Market Expectation will be introduced first. After that, we are going to get a deep dive about the End User Requirement about Content Delivery Market and the Key Issue for such End User Requirement. As the mission critical issue of Telcos, the Telco CDN concept based on Smart Pipe will be introduced. After that we are going to share why we need Telco CDN Interconnection for Global content exchange. And, for the consensus of each participant, the Global Telco CDN interconnection status, use cases and special issues of Telco CDN interconnection will be introduced. As the final issue, the KT’s Global Telco CDN interconnection status will be introduced also.

This interactive session will provide information on how to participate effectively in the ITU-T standardization process and create a corresponding ITU-T preparatory process at the national level.  This includes considerations and advice for creating a national process for the ITU-T for your public and private sectors, how to prepare for, participate in and report on international standardization meetings, and concrete steps you can take now to get started.
