Presentaton Abstract
Title: Evaluating Smart Cities' Sustainability: Smartainability

The percentage of people living in urban areas is getting higher and higher and the Smart City paradigm is seen as the tool to best improve citizens’ quality of life. In this scenario, is smart cities development in line with sustainable development goals? In order to answer to this question RSE SpA (Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico) has created a new and original approach: Smartainability. The Smartainability methodology allows to estimate, with quantitative and qualitative indicators, how far smart cities are more sustainable (and smart) in environmental, economical, energetic and social fields, thanks to innovative technologies. Moreover, these estimates can be realized before technologies deployment. The methodology has been tested, for the first time, on the Expo Milano 2015 Digital Smart City and soon will be extended on “real” cities.
