FILIPPINI Luigi

Luigi Filippini is currently President of CRS4.

Established in 1990, CRS4 (Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia) is an interdisciplinary research center promoting the study, development and application of innovative solutions to problems stemming from natural, social and industrial environments. Information Society, Technology and High Performance Computing are the supporting foundations. The main objective is innovation. Luigi Filippini is also CEO of Meridies Holding, Hosteras Tour Operator and member of the Expert Committee of Siparex Investimenti 2. Recently was Partner in JV2 Capital (now United Ventures).

From 2000 to 2007 he has been CEO of Energ.it, a multiutility company operating in the energy, telecommunication and internet sectors. The company, founded and started-up by Meridies Holding in 2000, reached a turnover of more than 96 million euros with about 70 employees. From 1998 to 2000 Luigi has been CTO and COO at Tiscali, a telecommunications operator providing Internet and fixed-phone services in major European countries. He also had the responsibility for the initial public offering (IPO) of the company taking place in October 1999.

Prior to joining Tiscali, Luigi worked for Telecom Italia, within Tin.it, its Internet Services Division, where he was involved in the integration of Video On Line and Telecom On line. From 1995 to 1996 he took part in the start-up of Video On Line, first european-wide commercial ISP. From 1992 to 1995 he worked at CRS4 in the Scientific Visualization and Digital Media group.

Luigi holds a Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pisa

Many different projects and initiatives have been developed in Sardinia to improve quality of life, innovation, creativity, efficient management and sustainable urban development. Furthermore, in recent years the whole island is becoming a test-bed for the study and development of smart city solutions to be implemented either locally or in other regions and countries.
