Married, two children. Executive of the National Health Service’s ASL in Cosenza since 1980, free-lance journalist, he was elected Senator for the first time in the 2001 general election in the Cosenza constituency, where he stood for the Casa delle Libertà coalition.
He has been Secretary of the Treasury and Finance Committee and member of the Parliamentary Enquiry Committee on mafia-type organised crime.
He was reelected in the 2006 general election with Forza Italia in Calabria, and has been reconfirmed for a third mandate in the following election in 2008, where he stood for the Popolo delle Libertà.
On 5 May 2011 he was appointed Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Economy in the Berlusconi IV Cabinet.
He was reelected in the 2013 general election and was appointed Secretary of the Senate for the Popolo delle Libertà.
On 16 November 2013, following the suspension of the activities of the Popolo delle Libertà party and the relaunch of Forza Italia, he joined the Nuovo Centrodestra party led by Angelino Alfano, for which he became Regional Coordinator for Calabria.
He is a member of the Parliamentary Committee for Childhood and Adolescence.
In February 2016 he was appointed Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economic Development.
