ITU Workshop on “Future Optical Networks for IMT2030, AI, broadband and more"

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized the ITU Workshop on “Future Optical Networks for IMT2030, AI, Broadband and more” in the afternoon of 12 June 2025at 15h30-18h00 in Paris and was hosted by Huawei Technologies. Remote participation was provided for this workshop. This workshop was held in conjunction with the  ITU-T SG15 interim meetings of Q6, Q13 and joint Q12 & Q14/15 meeting.

This ITU Workshop aimed to discuss with the industry and our global society the progress made in ITU-T SG15 to support emerging applications — such as IMT-2030, AI, data center interconnections, and broadband access—through enabling optical network architectures and technologies.  This included discussion of the framework and overall objectives for the future optical networks, currently under development in ITU-T SG15 and provisionally called International Optical Networks towards 2030 and Beyond (ION-2030).

Target Audience
Participation in the workshop was open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to any individual from a country that is a member of ITU who wishes to contribute to the work. This included individuals who are also members of international, regional and national organizations. Participation in the workshop was free of charge.
