The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is organising a ITU Workshop on “Resilience to Natural Hazards through AI Solutions”, on 8 May 2025, in Frascati, Italy. The workshop will be kindly hosted by the European Space Agency. The Workshop will be followed by the second meeting of the Global Initiative on 9 May 2025 at the same venue.

With the objective of laying the groundwork for international standards, the ITU/WMO/UNEP/UNFCCC/UPU Global Initiative on Resilience to Natural Hazards through AI Solutions works closely with experts and actively explores how AI can be leveraged for disaster management. This Global Initiative builds on the activities of the ITU/WMO/UNEP Focus Group on AI for Natural Disaster Management

During this day-long workshop, there will be three moderated sessions dedicated to examining the (i) opportunities and challenges when training models, (ii)  methods and architectures when tracking and forecasting hazards, and (iii) the integration of AI into communication tools.

Showcasing different types of data (e.g., radar, GNSS, and street-level imagery), algorithms (including physics-informed models), end-products, and hazards (e.g., droughts, extreme precipitation, floods, landslides, and tsunamis), the day-long workshop will provide a snapshot of the current state-of-the-art.

Participation is open to the ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates, ITU Academia, and to any individual from a country that is a member of the ITU and who wished to contribute to the work. This included individuals who are also members of international, regional and national organizations. Participation to the workshop was free of charge.

Remote Participation: To access the virtual room, connect to our Restricted Virtual Events platform (using your ITU USER Account used for your registration). The event will be listed with an “OPEN” link to connect to the Zoom session.
