​​​​ Person Icon Gert Grammel
Network Strategy, Juniper Networks

Gert Grammel is Principal Engineer at Juniper Networks where he has been working with Cloud Providers, and Service Providers on automation, optical technology, and evolution of networks. He has over 25 years of experience in various management and engineering positions and enjoys innovating networking technology and control architectures. Since 2020, Gert is spearheading Juniper’s activities in exploring the Quantum Internet. He also participates in IETF, GSMA, and ETSI-QKD and is a regular attendee and presenter at conferences. Currently, Gert is leading the Quantum Pathfinder Team in Juniper preparing the company strategy for quantum-safe networking and communication.

Cryptographer, BSI, Germany

Tobias Hemmert holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a PhD from the University of D¸sseldorf. He joined the cryptography division of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in 2020 to work on quantum-safe cryptography.

Director, Quantum ICT Laboratory, NICT

Go Kato is the Director of Quantum ICT Laboratory in National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).  He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in science from The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 2001 and 2004, respectively. In 2004, he joined the NTT Communication Science Laboratories and has been involved in the theoretical investigation of quantum information. His research interests include mathematical structures emerging in the field of quantum information. He moved to the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Tokyo, in 2022.​

Lead Consultant, Cyber Security Agency of Singapore

Roddy is a Lead Certifier in CSA’s Cybersecurity Certification Centre, which operates and manages national certification schemes such as Singapore Common Criteria Scheme and Cybersecurity Labelling Scheme. Roddy is leading the efforts in CSA on security assurance for quantum-safe technologies such as Post-Quantum Cryptography and Quantum-Key Distribution, towards achieving post-quantum resilience and security. His interests in cryptography include algorithms, architecture, assurance, and application. Prior to joining CSA, he was a cryptography architect and cryptographic software developer. He holds BSc in both Pure and Applied Mathematics from the National University of Singapore as well as a MMath from the University of Waterloo.

Chief Engineer, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) | Chair, JCA-QKDN

Dr. Junsen Lai is the senior engineer of China Academy of Information and Communication Technology, Institute of Technology and Standards. The main research directions are quantum information, quantum communication, high-speed optical transmission, WDM/OTN. In recent years, Dr. Lai team has provided support for the work of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China in the field of quantum information, promoted the exploration of quantum information technology applications and industrial development, and provided standardization study, testing and evaluation service, and technical consultation for the academic and industrial quantum information community. Dr. Lai serves as the Chair of Joint Coordination Activity for Quantum Key Distribution Network Standards (JCA-QKDN), the Vice-Chair of the Focus Group on Quantum Information Technology for Networks (FG-QIT4N) in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T), and the Leader of the Standards Measurement Group of the Quantum Information Networking Industry Alliance (QIIA).​

Executive Director, Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), University of Waterloo | Co-Founder and CTO of evolutionQ​ | Vice-chair of ETSI ISG QKD

Norbert Lütkenhaus is the Executive Director of the Institute for Quantum  Computing (IQC), faculty member of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo, and co-founder and CTO of evolutionQ.  He began researching quantum information in 1993, earning his PhD from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, UK. His PhD research built the foundation of the ongoing security analysis of optical implementations of quantum key distribution (QKD), leading to the first complete security analysis of practical QKD. His current research is at the intersection between theoretical quantum protocols and practical realizations, and developing quantum optical versions of protocols that realize quantum communication and information complexity advantages. His career has included research positions in Austria, Finland, and Germany. He has spent time in industry, working on the first commercial realization of quantum key distribution in 2000. He has also authored several patents and is co-founder and CTO of evolutionQ Inc. He serves on the Advisory Board of several international high profile research networks, conference, and workshop series, and also serves as Vice-Chair of the ETSI Industry Specification Group on Quantum Key Distribution. He is an Affiliate Member of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. His international leadership is recognized through his election as Fellow of the American Physical Society.​

Vadim Makarov leads the Quantum hacking lab at Vigo quantum communication center in Vigo, Spain and at Russian quantum center in Moscow, Russia. The lab studies implementation security and certification of quantum cryptography.

Cryptographic Strategist, evolutionQ, Research Associate, Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo​

Sarah McCarthy is a quantum-secure cryptography specialist with a focus on practical solutions for current and future communications networks. As Cryptographic Strategist at evolutionQ, she drives the development of quantum-safe network solutions and raises awareness about the importance of preparing for the quantum computing era. This is supported by her Research Associate role at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), part of University of Waterloo, which allows her to keep in touch with the progression of quantum-safe solutions, from theory to deployment. ​

Founder, Institute for Quantum Computing and Professor, University of Waterloo


Michele Mosca obtained a BMath at Waterloo in 1995 and was recipient of the Mathematics Faculty Alumni Gold Medal. He went to Wolfson College, University of Oxford, on a Commonwealth Scholarship, and received an MSc in Mathematics and the Foundations of Computer Science (with Distinction) in 1996. He continued at Oxford, obtaining a DPhil in quantum computer algorithms in 1999 while holding the Robin Gandy Junior Research Fellowship. In 1999 he started Waterloo’s effort in quantum computing, with the support of the Centre for Applied Cryptographic Research, St. Jerome’s University, and his home department, Combinatorics & Optimization (C&O). He is currently Full Professor in the C&O Department of the Faculty of Mathematics. He also has cross-appointments in Computer Science and Physics & Astronomy. He is co-founder of CryptoWorks21, a training program in quantum-safe cryptography. He also initiated the Quantum Cryptography Summer School for Young Scientists (QCSYS) at IQC. Mosca has made major contributions to the theory and practice of quantum information processing, particularly in the areas of quantum algorithms, techniques for studying the limitations of quantum computers, quantum self-testing and private quantum channels. Together with collaborators at Oxford, he realized several of the first implementations of quantum algorithms using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. He also made major contributions to the phase estimation approach to quantum algorithms, including the hidden subgroup problems, and quantum searching and counting. In the area of quantum security, he helped define the notion of private quantum channels and develop optimal methods for encrypting quantum information using classical keys. His current research interests include quantum computation, cryptographic tools designed to be safe against quantum technologies, and software tools for quantum information processing systems. He is globally recognized for his drive to help academia, industry and government prepare our cyber systems to be safe in an era with quantum computers. He was a founder of the ETSI-IQC workshop series in Quantum-Safe Cryptography which brings together a broad range of stakeholders working toward globally standardized quantum-safe cryptography. He co-founded evolutionQ Inc. to provide services and products that enable organizations to evolve their quantum-vulnerable systems and practices to quantum-safe ones. His work is published widely in top journals, and he co-authored the respected textbook “An Introduction to Quantum Computing” (OUP). Mosca has won numerous academic awards and honours, including 2010 Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, the Premier’s Research Excellence Award (2000-2005), Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) since 2010, Canada Research Chair in Quantum Computation (2002-2022), University Research Chair at the University of Waterloo (2012-present), Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2013) and Fr. Norm Choate C.R., Lifetime Achievement Award (2017).​

Dr. Oliver Muth, born in 1968 in Marburg Germany was educated as a Chemist at the Phillips-University of Marburg (Germany). During his Time at Fraunhofer he received his PhD at the University of Darmstadt in 1998. Since 2000 he is in Charge of Bundesdruckerei developing different security features and systems for Value and Id Documents. Since 2022 he leads the Project Qu-Gov, which deals wth the Evaluation of Quantum Technologies inside (federal) administration.

Senior Researcher, National University of Singapore | Vice Chair JCA QKDN, Q15/17 Associate Rapporteur

Hao Qin is a senior researcher in National Quantum-Safe Network, affiliated with Centre for Quantum Technologies, National University of Singapore (NUS). He is the co-chair of Quantum Communication Networks Task Force under Infocomm Media Development Authority in Singapore. He has been contributing to standardization works on quantum communication in ITU-T, ISO and ETSI. In ITU-T, he is the associate rapporteur of Q15/17 “Security for/by emerging technologies including quantum-based security” and the vice chair of Joint Coordination Activity on Quantum Key Distribution Network (JCA QKDN). He is the NUS focal point for ITU and official contact for ETSI. He has more than ten years of academic and industry experience on quantum communication in world leading institutions from Europe, North America, and Asia. His research focuses on practical aspects of quantum communication, including implementation security & evaluation, key managements, use cases, and standardization & certification. He holds a PhD from TELECOM Paris and a MSc from TELECOM Bretagne (IMT Atlantique). He speaks Chinese, English and French.​
Person IconUlrich Seyfarth
Manager, Bearing Point

Ulrich Seyfarth is the manager for quantum technologies at BearingPoint and has a strong scientific background in this topic. His attention to quantum technologies started 2005 in France with a theoretical work on nanotubes and Josephson junctions. Ulrich Seyfarth built then a strong connection to QKD and data security (Diploma on QKD protocols, was member of a predecessor of Germanys cyber-security research-center ATHENE in Darmstadt) and broadened his quantum technology expertise in his theoretical PhD in 2013 (TU Darmstadt) about quantum tomography (construction of mutually unbiased bases) and the security analysis of a QKD scheme. He moved to MPL in Erlangen to work with Gerd Leuchs and Luis Sanchez-Soto, focussing also on high-order polarisations in SU(2) and the derivation of Wigner functions for SU(1,1) symmetric states. He moved to BearingPoint in 2021 to ramp up the companies' activities in the quantum technology sector and is active with his group in different quantum technology projects.

Lory Thorpe is an Executive leader with over 20 years senior level, global experience in telecommunications, security and digital transformation, with a technology, innovation and partnership background in next generation networks, IoT and connectivity enabled industries across Private and Public sector.  Her previous experience includes both operator and vendor roles, working for major telecommunication companies such as Ericsson, Nokia and Vodafone. Lory is a Senior Strategy Consultant within IBM Quantum, leading the Quantum Safe for Industries and Partnership agenda. She is the Chair of the GSMA Post Quantum Telco Network Task Force, which is focusing on preparing the Telco industry for the Quantum Era. Lory is originally from Toronto, Canada and lives in London, UK with her family.​

Dr. Weiyang Zhang works as an engineer at Hefei national laboratory and Jinan Institute of Quantum Technology. He got his PH. D in optical processing and networking from Hokkaido University. He has 4 years of experience in security analysis, evaluation and test of quantum key distribution system and participates in some QKD/QKDN related standardization projects.
