This session will focus on the experience of the African region on conformance and interoperability testing of ICT equipment in compliance with International standards. The session will also explore whether or not conformance and interoperability programmes are possible technical solutions to combat counterfeit ICT devices. The overview of ITU activities on the implementation of ITU C&I Programme and new joint certification schemes which are under development in ITU now will be highlighted at this session.

​11:15 - 12:45Session 2: Combating Counterfeiting
ITU-T SG11 recognized that counterfeit and substandard ICT devices pose a lot of challenges in developing countries, particularly the Africa region. This session will continue discussion taken place at the first SG11 Regional Workshop for Africa (Egypt, 5 April 2017) and will focus on the extent of the problem of counterfeit ICT devices in the Region.
