ON-DEMAND TESTING. TERMS AND CONDITIONS

GOAL

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organizes on-demand testing of mobile phone(s) on the request of Clients interested in determining which mobile phones work as required when functioning as gateways to car hands-free telephone systems.
Testing over the period of 2016 to 2018 will be conducted by the Test Lab in accordance with the tests detailed by Chapter 12 of Recommendations ITU-T P.1100 and ITU-T P.1110, international standards approved in January 2015 for narrowband and wideband communications involving vehicles. HEAD acoustics was selected as the preferred Test Lab following a Call for Bids.

OUTCOME

    • Mobile phone(s) found to pass the tests will be publicized on the ITU website in a list of mobile phones, which are compliant with chapter 12 of ITU-T P.1100 and ITU-T P.1110. With agreement from vendors, these mobile phones will be also entered in the ITU Product Conformity Database.
    • An analysis compiling and comparing results of all mobile phones tested in every three-month period will be published in an “Anonymized Test Report” on the ITU website. “Anonymized” means that the model, software version, company name and brand of the mobile phone are not mentioned.
    • The Test Lab will produce a two-page report for each test summarizing detailed test results, including a “Quality Pie Chart” as specified in Recommendation ITU-T P.505 (an example can be found here) for the Client and ITU. Suggestions on how to improve the phone(s) tested will also be provided to the Client if requested.

FEE

The on-demand testing fee is 1050 Euro per test. In the case where more than one test is required by a Client, the fee for each additional test after the first is 700 Euro per test.
Note: the evaluation of one mobile phone in both narrowband and wideband is considered as two different tests.

PROCEDURE

  1. To request on-demand testing, the Client should submit a request to ITU (interop@itu.int) indicating its agreement to the “Terms and Conditions”, which are highlighted on this web page, and the model, software version, company name and brand of the mobile phone(s) to be tested.
  2. Once ITU accepts the on-demand testing request, ITU will forward it to the Test Lab and inform the Client at the same time. Afterwards, the Test Lab will contact the Client within three working days and reach an agreement with the Client within two weeks to schedule the requested testing at the Test Lab.
  3. The Client should make the payment to ITU no later than two weeks prior to the scheduled testing. Payment details will be provided on request.
  4. Mobile phone(s) to be tested must be provided by the Client to the Test Lab in due time, preferably one week before the scheduled testing.
  5. With ITU confirmation of the receipt of the participation fee, the Test Lab will conduct the scheduled testing of the submitted mobile phone(s) as agreed with the Client.
  6. Test report(s) of the tested mobile phone(s) will be provided to the Client and ITU within two weeks of the testing. Suggestions on how to improve the phone(s) tested will also be provided to the Client at the same time, if requested.
  7. Mobile phone(s) which pass the tests will be included in the updated list of mobile phones compliant with chapter 12 of ITU-T P.1100 and ITU-T P.1110 (and the ITU Product Conformity Database, if applicable) within three working days of the receipt of the test report(s).

CONFIDENTIALITY

    • ITU and the Test Lab will not announce the names of the Client without the Client’s agreement.
    • The Client is allowed to make public recommendations to its customers on which mobile phones (model, software version, company name and brand) will work as required when connected as gateways to car hands-free telephone systems, citing the corresponding ITU on-demand testing.
